How's Potty Training Going?

Funny you should ask, because it's not going as I pictured.  As most things in our lives, we picture it one way and then our children manage to change it to THEIR way.

So for an update, Frankie does great at school,  He goes "poo-poo potty" all day every day at school! Which means, he goes accident FREE for 6 hours! But as soon as we get home....... It all goes out the door.

He does not want to do anything with the potty. The potty is not is friend at home.  Despite of all the bribes and stickers, games, cookies, I offer him, he's just not interested in it.

Once in a while we will enlighten me and go #1 but other than that, it's just not happening.

His teacher asked me last week, as she usually does, and I  answered her by saying, "Yeah, umm not so good. He forgets about the potty at home! He's just not interested in it. So like in all other areas in his life, he'll do it on his own terms. "

I went on to explain that he didn't like the bottle and was strictly, exclusively breastfeeding and one day, he took a bottle.  Same thing with a Sippy cup.  I bought this cup, and that cup and the nipple-like cup and the cup that spins and the golden cup, and he didn't like either one.  However, one day, he took the cup and liked it!  On his own terms!!

My son is what some will call, a strong willed child. He doesn't "forget" about anything. If you say, I'll give you a cookie later, well then, you must deliver. As for concept of time, yeah, as a toddler, there are only two choices, NOW and NOW!

On his own terms! This even happened when he was born.  My doctor wanted to schedule me for a induction. I opted out and said I'd wait until I went into labor.  One day before my original due date, I was in labor! On his own terms people!

So it doesn't surprise me that he doesn't want to automatically go poo-poo in the potty.  He'll get it eventually (I hope). One day he's going to surprise me and tell me he doesn't want to wear his pull-up and that will be the end of it.

For any parents that are dealing with the same thing that I am, I give you my patience dust! ************* You'll need it*****************   Just like everything in life, you'll need patience. Lots of patience.  Especially in this toddler stage. Good Luck!!
And Potty ON!

If it's one thing I dislike is....

Waking up a sleeping baby!! When Frankie's weekend comes, he should just be able to sleep and catch up on those much needed Zzzz's !

We all need to rest our bodies and minds and Toddlers need all the rest that can have. Their little minds and bodies are busy trying to grow and they need fuel to get the job done.

Sleep is so important for humans. Without rest, we crack under pressure.  I don't know about you, but if I don't sleep enough, I'm moody, cranky and absolutely can't take on the day without feeling sluggish!

I'm going to take a stab at it and say that the same goes for toddlers.
I love sleep! And so does my little boy. If he didn't sleep, he wouldn't have energy for this:

So , parents, catch up on sleep! It's the only way you're going to be able to keep up with these kids!
