First time mom jitters

I confess.  I purchased many baby books. I read through almost all of them.  I took a birthing class.  I looked online! I did everything that those books tell you to do.

When he didn’t sleep those first 3 weeks, I told my husband to download all those lullaby’s.  He has lullaby version of The Cure, the Beetles, Kanye, No Doubt, Weezer, The Ramones and every other rock star you can think of!  Did that help him sleep?  NO!

I started giving him nightly baths because the books say to give him a bath to soothe him.  but that started to dry out his skin and it didn’t help much to have an itchy baby.  Then he developed eczema, so that added to his fussiness.

I have questions, I have worries. For example, I worry when he doesn’t poo on a regular basis!  I got scared the first time he slept through the night.  When I realized that it was morning and I didn’t get up for the 4 am feeding, I jumped out of bed, almost tripped over my slippers and ran to his crib.  He was sleeping soundly!

I wanted to punch the nurse who gave him his first shots, and I freaked out when he got a fever! I called my mom and she told me to give him Tylenol and give him a bath and keep him cool!

I was prepared for the 4 month shots with an open schedule, Tylenol and lots and lots of hugs.

I called the nurse when I noticed a little redness on his bottom, she probably thought I was overreacting, but hey, I’m A FIRST TIME MOM!

With all those questions and concerns, it’s no wonder that the they say that the first baby is the test run.  I’m not sure how I feel about that!

TEST RUN?

No.  We’ll be prepared, if we decide to have another baby.   We’ll know what to do. We’ll know that it’s perfectly fine to give the baby a pacifier and bottle.  We’ll know that we should ALWAYS swaddle the baby! And we’ll remember to take pictures everyday and cherish each and every day we have with this precious blessing that was bestowed upon us.

With so many questions burning in my head;

Mayra
